Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Writer-director Brian Helgeland dared to use rock music--mostly anthems from the 1970s--to accompany A Knight's Tale, his rousing story of a medieval jousting champion, and this anachronistic strategy pays off handsomely by giving the film a joyful exuberance that it might otherwise have lacked. Divorced from the film, this hot sampling of hits is just another corporate song package intended to boost the film's profit margin, but it's still a blast to listen to. For anyone who grew up with this music--by Queen, War, David Bowie, Bachman-Turner Overdrive, Heart, Thin Lizzy, and others--the line-up of favourites plays like an hour from the golden years of album-orientated-rock radio. Younger listeners can hear what they missed--the music was so much better than it was given credit for at the time--and an update of Queen's "We Are the Champions", with Robbie Williams interpreting the irreplaceable Freddie Mercury, turns out to be not half bad (especially since Brian May's guitar licks are still fantastic). "One of Our Own" is the only track to sample Carter Burwell's lush film score with a dialogue clip included, and three tracks (including "Eye Conqueror" by Third Eye Blind) are passable non-film songs exclusive to this CD. Cynics might argue that this music has no place in a medieval knight's tale, and that this soundtrack is entirely perfunctory. Those opinions could be justified, but it's a whole lot easier--and a lot more fun--to press "play" and groove on this energetic celebration of heroic rock & roll. --Jeff Shannon

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent!!, 29 May 2003
By lucy gibson (reading (UK)) - See all my reviews
this album is NOT to be over looked. before you pass it on by stop & think. everyone needs to listen to a little energetic rock now and then & this certainly fits the bill. from the moment it starts with queen it's perfect, the way it fitted into the film was seamless, listen to the music & you'll imagine the film & if you haven't seen the film then you'll definetly want to by the end of the cd. the best songs have to be 'we wil rock you', 'takin' care of business', 'the boys are back in town' (my personal fave) and though it wasn't actually in the film 'eye conquerer'. a song that always makes me laugh is 'golden years' by david bowie, though he's not a favourite of mine the song is a laugh & i can't help but imagine heath ledger doing that funny dance! this album is not just for the guys but great for any girls who like something a little different and fun to sing and dance to, so don't just buy it for the lure of heath ledger, there's more to it than that.

5.0 out of 5 stars It will Rock you!, 26 Aug 2001
Like the film that owns the soundtrack, this CD of various artists, naming Queen, Robbie Williams will surely rock you! If this doesn't get you in the mood for patriotic or competitive splender then nothing will. The rock tracks beckons you, try to deny it if you will but when you press play you won't be able to hold yourself in. This soundtrack matched the theme and plot of the film like no other soundtrack has before. With your old favs, Queen and Iggy Pop, plus a new Robbie Williams tune (Queen cover version, you can't go far wrong by purchasing this CD. Your collection will be solemn without it!

5.0 out of 5 stars A purely inspirational soundtrack, 14 Mar 2002
By A Customer
I went to see the movie at the cinema not expecting much, but was shocked to discover that I was watching the one of the best movies I have ever seen, This sound track was the reason the movie was so good. It consisted of a completely original and an inspiring mix of artists blended together to make a masterpiece. Excellent!
